Everton fans right to be suspicious about David Moyes succession plan after 'chaotic' scenes
Everton face uncertainty around the future of David Moyes.
The Scottish manager's contract at the Toffees expires at the end of the season after returning to the club in January 2025.
Under the 63-year-old head coach, the Blues went from fighting relegation battles to competing for Europe last season.
The Friedkin Group haven't shown much faith in Moyes, though, and their recruitment strategy at Hill Dickinson Stadium has left a lot to be desired.
It doesn't look like the American owners plan to extend the Scottish manager's stay in L3.
That raises the question of who could succeed Moyes at the Merseyside outfit.
Why The Friedkin Group can't be trusted at Everton
Moyes doesn't seem concerned about his Everton contract for now, but the noise around his future will only grow as the season goes by.
Fans in L3 lost plenty of faith in the Hill Dickinson Stadium hierarchy after a disappointing end to the transfer window.
Speaking on The Blue Room podcast on 6 October, The Athletic's Greg O'Keeffe raised suspicion over TFG's ability to find the right replacement for the Scottish manager.
The sale of Iliman Ndiaye and Beto on deadline day, coupled with the failed move for AS Monaco striker Folarin Balogun, has led to concerns among the Merseyside outfit's supporters.
"Would you trust the owners to actually line up the right successor for him and have that succession planned with someone who's going to hit the ground running, who they believe has been scouted and researched and they've interviewed numerous candidates and they've got the one who's going to take us forward?" asked O'Keeffe.
The Athletic journalist added, "Given the chaotic and haphazard way the transfer window worked out, I'm not sure that they've earned our trust to go and get the right man to succeed Moyes."
What summer transfer window means for David Moyes
Jack Grealish did return on loan to Everton from Manchester City in the summer, but Moyes has been left short on options in the squad.
With just 18 outfield players at his disposal, the Scottish manager has been left stranded by the ownership.
The Toffees' supporters hoped to make progress after an underwhelming end to last season, but Moyes arguably hasn't been given the tools to do so.
Thierno Barry is the only natural striker at the Merseyside outfit and it will be a big ask for him to score regularly this season.
Over the last three transfer windows, there has been a sense that TFG don't want to build a team for Moyes, which may indicate he's in the final months of his stint in L3.
