Everton will be keeping a close eye on Duncan Ferguson as he prepares for a return to management.

The Scot is a legend on Merseyside from his playing days.

He was iconic in his 107 appearances for the Toffees and followed that up with a role in the dugout.

The interim boss came in twice at Goodison while also serving as assistant to Carlo Ancelotti.

Things haven't been so great since he left the L3 outfit as his struggles as head coach at Forest Green Rovers were well documented.

Ferguson is now set to return to the management world as he looks set to make waves in a new league.

Who is Everton legend Duncan Ferguson set to join?

There is no doubt that the Blues faithful would love to see Big Dunc thrive as a manager.

That hasn't been seen as his most recent role, he departed Inverness Caledonian Thistle due to their financial woes.

Since leaving the Scottish side he has been without a job and has taken up punditry work.

Ferguson is now stepping back into the dugout as he looks set to take up the mantle at Northern Irish side Glentoran.

The Belfast Telegraph describe the imminent appointment as "the most extraordinary appointment in Irish League football history".

That has come as a surprise to many as we look into why he has taken on the role.

Why is Ferguson becoming head coach of Glentoran?

It does seem like a strange and surprising move for the Scot to make.

The above report details that he is doing so after conversations with Glentoran owner Ali Shams Pour.

He is said to have been "instrumental" in getting a deal over the line.

Ferguson is now set to be unveiled as Glens boss on 19 October as the Irish League looks set for a shake-up.

His remit will likely be to win the league title after the East Belfast came third last campaign.

That would certainly be great to see from an Everton point of view as supporters will keep tabs on his progress.

The question will be about whether he can learn from his Forest Green days and prove himself as a head coach.
