David Moyes faces an uncertain future at Everton as The Friedkin Group look to sell up.

The Scot has been in charge since his Merseyside return in January 2025.

There was a very real fear of relegation before his arrival as things were going downhill under Sean Dyche.

Those worries were quickly removed by the 63-year-old as the Toffees have only been looking upwards.

That has been done despite a lack of backing and various issues on and off the pitch.

The issue is that Moyes' current contract only runs until the summer of 2027, but when could a new deal be offered?

Friedkins put David Moyes contract talks on ice

There has been no shortage of talk in the past week about a change of ownership at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Friedkins have been accused of a "flip" on Merseyside as they look to make a quick profit on their 2024 purchase.

That hasn't impacted their decision as they are look for the right custodian to lead to Blues forward.

What it does appear to have effected is the future of Moyes.

That comes after The Athletic reported on Friday that his contract is expected to be resolved by any new owners.

The Friedkins delayed talks over the summer until the window finished and are have decided to continue putting it off until they depart.

There does appear to be one circumstance where the current owners deal with his future, and that is if the sale process "drags on" - likely meaning if they are still in place come the back end of this season.

Could Moyes be replaced at Everton?

The Scot only put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year deal in 2025.

He was seen as a short-term fix by the Friedkins at the very start of their tenure as owners.

They have their eyes on a quick exit and should a new owner come in before the end of the season, Moyes faces plenty of uncertainty.

New investors typically like to put their own stamp on things with a new head coach, a trend that has been utilised by the likes of Newcastle United with Eddie Howe, Manchester City with Roberto Mancini and Chelsea with Jose Mourinho.

That may not be good news for Moyes, although he is certainly doing all he can to continue to prove himself on Merseyside.
