Why David Moyes contract latest is a 'huge glaring negative' for The Friedkin Group
David Moyes could have a telling say on The Friedkin Group's efforts to sell Everton.
The Americans are looking to sell the Merseyside outfit less than two years after purchasing the Toffees.
They are looking for the right custodians to lead the Toffees forward after their stabilisation.
Many are unsure whether they will find that any time soon as the early stages of the process get underway.
There are yet to be any concrete links to interested parties and the head coach situation could be why.
Moyes is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract and that could be having an impact on sale proceedings, but why?
David Moyes to put off any prospective Everton buyers
The Scot has done such a great job since returning to L3, but he could be the man to put any sale on ice.
That may seem strange given how much excellent work he has done back on Merseyside.
It isn't due to anything he can control, it is actually because of his contract situation.
Moyes' deal is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, with no news of talks being underway.
That represents a concern for former Aston Villa CEO Christian Purslow who believes that scenario could halt any potential sale.
Speaking via The Football Boardroom podcast, he said: "The fact that David is out of contract in the summer is a huge glaring negative for any prospective owner.
"You need to make David Moyes and his team an asset in a sale process, that means secure, stable, under contract, with a very clear plan.
"Any respectable buyer, who's worth their salt, the first thing they're going to say is, 'I need to visit the training ground, meet the manager and hear about the plans for the team.' You need David [Moyes] on side and that means there needs to be complete unity."
That begs the question why a deal hasn't been sorted by now, but that is something for the Friedkins to deal with.
When could Moyes sign a new deal at Everton?
With that verdict from Purslow, it would seem like a no-brainer to offer the ex-Manchester United boss a new deal.
It doesn't appear that the Friedkins even have that in their sights.
Reports detailed when Everton were put up for sale that any contract talks for Moyes had been put on the backburner.
It has been suggested that the Scot needs to wait for any new owner to come in to land a new deal.
That may seem to be pie in the sky from the Friedkins based on what Purslow is saying.
Should that be the case, an extension could come sooner rather than later as his expiry approaches.
