Everton are keeping an eye on Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy this summer.

The 31-year-old has emerged as a target for the Toffees as they look to reinforce their attack ahead of next season.

As things stand, the Englishman's current contract at St James' Park expires in 2027 and he could possibly be available for a bargain.

Alan Shearer has already given the Hill Dickinson Stadium hierarchy reasons to sign Murphy, who has been described as "outstanding".

The forward, who primarily plays on the right-wing, has come into his own under Eddie Howe in recent seasons.

With the Magpies going through a mini-rebuild this summer, the Merseyside outfit have the perfect opportunity to pounce on the attacker's signature.

Jacob Murphy once only second-best to Mohamed Salah

Murphy has earned rave reviews from Shearer over the last few years after playing a key role in Howe's success, especially in the 2024-25 campaign.

During that season, the forward scored eight goals and provided 12 assists in the Premier League and set up a goal as Newcastle won the Carabao Cup.

Shearer was adamant that Murphy should have been in the Premier League Team of the Season, with Mohamed Salah the only right-winger better than him at that time.

While there may have been some bias from the former Newcastle star towards the English forward, his assessment did have merit.

Speaking in May 2025, Shearer said, "You won’t want to go to sleep talking about Jacob Murphy because of how outstanding he has been. There’s no doubt, candidate for Team of the Season. Is anyone going to argue about that? Tell me who’s been better than him other than Mo Salah."

Everton transfer priority clear as new players at Finch Farm today

What would Jacob Murphy's arrival mean for other Everton attackers?

If Murphy does move to Everton this summer, that would leave questions over multiple players under David Moyes.

The Toffees may be preparing for a future without Iliman Ndiaye, with a big-money exit for the Senegal forward surely not out of the question.

Speculation around Tyler Dibling's future has ramped up in recent weeks and it wouldn't be surprising to see him leave if the attack is reinforced.

Dwight McNeil also undoubtedly faces an uncertain future at Hill Dickinson Stadium, and it remains to be seen how the Scottish manager's squad will shape up in the coming weeks.
