Andy Burnham names Everton transfer wish other than Jack Grealish return

Andy Burnham has joined the Everton supporters clamouring for the return of Jack Grealish this summer.

The England winger had a big impact on loan at Hill Dickinson Stadium last season before his spell was cruelly curtailed by in injury in February.

Grealish, 30, scored two goals and provided six assists in 20 Premier League appearances for Everton.

The Toffees opted not to exercise a £50million purchase option, though, and he is now back with Manchester City.

There has been persistent talk that Everton could try and bring Grealish back to Merseyside during the transfer window.

Burnham, a noted Everton supporter, wants to see that too, but he also named his other big transfer wish before the end of the window.

Everton's transfer business has been a little on the slow side so far this summer.

Hayden Hackney and Christian Norgaard are new faces in the building, while Merlin Rohl and Tyrique George making permanent moves after loan spells last term.

Another major priority of Everton's is to sign a right-back, and that is what Burnham implored the Toffees to do.

The prime minister was speaking exclusively to freelance journalist Sam Cohen, who has over 175,000 X followers, and has written for the likes of GiveMeSport and Sky Sports.

In quotes Cohen posted on X, Burnham said: “I’m hoping Jack Grealish will give us one more year, at least I hope more than one, because he was a joy to watch last year and he brings a character that Evertonians can completely buy into.

“So the signs are good but there is one thing that I would just ask: sign a right-back.

“We need a right-back. Poor old Jake [O'Brien] can’t do another season at right-back. He’s a good player, he’s a great centre-back. Buy a right-back.”

Burnham's sentiment is one that will be backed by Evertonians.

It is frankly astounding that Everton have go so long without properly addressing the issues at right-back.

Celtic's Alistair Johnston is a top target, but it could be a pricy and difficult deal to get over the line for the Canada international.

Atletico Madrid's Nahuel Molina is reportedly of Everton's radar as well, and he may be available for cheaper.

The likes of Djed Spence and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have also been linked earlier in the transfer window.

It is an issue that Everton simply must address this summer because it's a problem that's been staring them in the face now for some time.
