Deadline set as Everton and Tottenham make £34.7m bids for Baris Alper Yilmaz
Baris Alper Yilmaz is the one name that refuses to go away.
Everton are clearly in the market for a new attacker, and the Turkish playmaker has been an ever-present throughout the summer.
David Moyes is preparing his squad for their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace
But, Angus Kinnear has made it very clear that transfers are gathering pace behind the scenes.
With two weeks to go until the deadline, the Toffees need several new signings to become more than competitive.
Yilmaz could be the headline of them all.
Tottenham have other plans for Baris Alper Yilmaz
It wouldn't be the final transfer sprint without several clubs battling it out for their preferred targets.
Everton have left their business quite late, which is a surprise given past trouble and struggles in the market.
Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl turning their loans permanent took up a lot of money, with Hayden Hackey also signing on the dotted line with Christian Norgaard in midfield.
Now, eyes are on Yilmaz again.
Fanatik has reported that Everton have made a £34.7million offer to secure the physical winger.
The Turkish outlet states on its website that Spurs have done the same.
Yilmaz is undecided so far, but significant developments will occur in the next 10 days, taking us to 30 August.
Everton need to do better
While this is all well and good, Kinnear and the Friedkins are throwing money at the wrong problems.
While right-back is an issue that everybody knows about, another striker is needed over another winger.
With four wide options available to Moyes already, who is dropping down to make room for someone like Yilmaz?
When you consider that another Everton target in Assane Diao is valued at over £50m too, that money is so much better used elsewhere.
First and foremost, that right-back is needed to solve immediate issues in the starting XI, then the rest of the window can be used for looking at quality elsewhere.
Whether that's Yilmaz or Diao, or somebody else along those lines, right now, the priorities are all muddled.
With two Premier League games before that deadline for Yilmaz, all eyes are on picking up wins and starting the season with a bang.
