Everton continue to be linked with a late move for Como attacker Assane Diao this summer.

The winger has been mentioned for several months now, with Cesc Fabregas holding the keys.

David Moyes clearly wants another winger, as well as a right-back as his two priorites before the 1 September deadline.

Everton have made a new approach for Diao, but their interest hasn't gone past that yet.

Angus Kinnear has promised a busy end to the transfer window, but fans are sceptical about his comments already.

With 70 per cent of transfers supposedly done in the final two weeks, Everton are going to be very busy.

Or so many will hope.

Assane Diao can spark unexpected jackpot

Many have been left asking whether Everton actually need another winger at this moment in time.

Diario De Sevilla has reported in its print edition that Real Betis could receive an "unexpected" extra income from Diao.

The Spanish newspaper states on Thursday that Everton's interest could trigger a 20 per cent sell-on clause.

The Senegal international is rated at £51.4million currently, meaning that another £10.2m could be heading Betis' way if the Toffees pay up.

Right now, though, it's said that no transfer is close with agreements not yet reached between parties.

Do Everton need Assane Diao?

From the outside looking in, not at this stage.

There were consistent links with Iliman Ndiaye and Saudi earlier in the window, but they didn't materialise and have gone quiet.

So, Diao would be more of a replacement for his Senegal counterpart, rather than being signed as well.

Moyes now has Brennan Johnson in his ranks too, joining Ndiaye, Tyrique George and Tyler Dibling.

That makes another winger, and one costing more than £50m completely unecessary at this stage.

With other burning priorties like that right-back nightmare, Everton simply can't afford to be splashing cash like that elsewhere.

Chances do pop up the later you get into a window, but it feels unlikely that Diao's price would drop that severely to make a deal viable.

Unfortunately for Betis, they may have to wait for that unexpected income.
