Everton can agree 'substantially' lower fee for Amar Dedic as release clause revealed

Everton are in the race to sign Amar Dedic from Benfica.

The Toffees are looking to sign a new right-back, a transfer priority that has left Evertonians frustrated all summer so far.

There have been reports that there is tension between David Moyes and senior figures at Hill Dickinson over recruitment, and the lack of a right-back signing could be a reason why.

Jake O'Brien was shoehorned into the position last season, and after Seamus Coleman's departure, Nathan Patterson is the only natural fit for the role.

However, the Scotland international looks to be up for sale this summer, with previous interest coming from the likes of Sevilla and clubs in Italy.

But Moyes would get his wish if Everton could pull off the signing of Dedic.

Everton hold an interest in Dedic, who featured for Bosnia and Herzegovina at this year's World Cup, starting three of his nation's four matches in North America.

The right-back is known for his speed and strength, and would offer the Toffees something completely different to what they currently have.

The Athletic are now reporting that the 23-year-old has a release clause of £42.7million, with Newcastle working on a deal to sign the Bosnian.

Despite his £42.7m release clause, a deal can be done for "substantially" less, with Benfica said to be demanding around £29.9m.

Newcastle have emerged as the frontrunners to sign the defender, though it's possible for Everton to nip in and steal the player right underneath the noses of the Magpies.

The latest on Everton's other right-back targets

Everton registered an early interest in Djed Spence this summer, though the England international appears set for a move to Inter Milan.

The Toffees have also been linked to Burnley's Kyle Walkers, but speculation has since been squashed.

Everton's chase for a new right-back has come the closest with Celtic's Alistair Johnston, but the Canadian could now face a lengthy spell on the sidelines injured after a recent knock.

The Blues were said to be too far away from Celtic's valuation of the defender anyway, with a £5m difference separating the two sides.

Now, Everton may have to look for another target, or go all in to steal Dedic away from Newcastle before it's too late.
