Everton chiefs told 'to do better' amid 'strange' Idrissa Gueye twist

Everton have been slammed by a former employee as Idrissa Gueye's contract looks set to expire.

The Senegal international is edging closer to the exit door on Merseyside as his contract ticks down.

He only signed a one year deal 12 months ago, but is coming to the end of that as July approaches.

That comes off the back after yet another campaign as a regular with the Toffees under David Moyes.

That makes it all the more surprising that the Blues would be willing to let the defensive midfielder go this summer.

There may now be evidence of a behind-the-scenes agreement that could explain why Gueye is set to leave.

Everton hierarchy blamed for Idrissa Gueye contract situation

It is bizarre that the Merseyside outfit haven't tied down the former PSG man given how important he's been since returning.

He may be 36, but continues to maintain a regular starting spot at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

That changed in the final weeks of the season when Gueye missed out on the final four Premier League matchday squads.

It appears that was done to avoid him activating a clause in his contract that would prompt another 12 month extension.

Ex-Everton scout Bryan King believes that the L3 club's chiefs have failed as Gueye, used 25 times last season, looks to find a way out this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, King said: "I'm surprised that they haven't given him a new deal. It all seems very strange to me.

"Everton didn't do anything in the games he missed, so it's strange why he wouldn't be playing. That kind of scenario points towards the fact that Gueye wanted to leave Everton after the World Cup anyway.

"Everton won't want to lose anyone on a free transfer, so the people who are controlling that should be do better."

Why Everton could regret losing Gueye this summer

It may not seem to bad to many people to lose a 36-year-old moving into a new campaign, but it could be a bigger blow than expected.

Gueye brings plenty of experience, but also helps the Blues to better results when he is playing.

Last season, Everton failed to win nine of the 13 Premier League games the midfielder missed, with a win rate of just 30 per cent.

That speaks volumes of the difference he can make and why it could be a mistake to let him go.

The Everton hierarchy may prove to have questions to answer over Gueye's exit if they can't replace him adequately.
