Everton now know where they stand in Douglas Luiz pursuit after Juventus update
Everton's interest in Douglas Luiz has emerged over the last week.
The Toffees have been fairly slow in the market so far, with only Hayden Hackney being a new name at Finch Farm.
Both Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl have also been confirmed as permanent transfers but the duo were at Hill Dickinson Stadium last season on loan.
David Moyes is unlikely to be best pleased with that outcome considering the Premier League season is just a month away.
Getting new players into the building and allowing them as much of a pre-season as possible would have been the ideal situation.
But, if the Toffees want to push forward with their interest in Luiz, there could be an opening that provides Juventus with an escape route over the out-of-favour midfielder.
How much Everton may need to pay to seal Douglas Luiz transfer
Goodison News have been following the latest updates on Luiz' future at Juventus amid Everton interest.
The Brazilian spent the whole of last season in the Premier League, with an initial spell at Nottingham Forest before making a temporary return to Aston Villa.
Now, his future in Serie A is back up in the air after the Villa Park side opted against triggering his option to buy clause.
According to Calciomercato, there is little confidence that the Old Lady can recoup a fee that avoids a loss on Luiz following his return.
But Everton could allow the Turin-based club an easy escape route based on the fee required.
Juventus need at minimum £21.3million in order to avoid a capital loss, and based on the Brazilian's experience in English football, that could prove to be a tempting price.
Luiz' data from 2025-2026 could make him a bargain and the Serie A outfit may want to avoid taking a risk by keeping him and lowering his value.
Why Everton could do with Luiz next season
The future of Idrissa Gana Gueye is yet to be resolved in L3, and the Toffees would be losing plenty of experience in the middle.
The Senegalese midfielder is currently a free agent following the expiry of his contract.
Alongside Luiz' technical qualities, as previously mentioned, he does hold that experience to cover the loss of Gueye.
Throughout his career, the Brazilian international has played 196 times in the Premier League, and while he did not get going as expected last season, there were plenty of signs of life in the 28-year-old.
