Everton set to make approach for Mauro Icardi signing after behind-the-scenes offer
Everton are reportedly lining up a move to sign former Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi.
The 33-year-old is currently available as a free agent after leaving Galatasaray at the end of last season.
Although Everton have started the season well, the Merseyside club was massively criticised for ending the summer transfer window with just one striker, one right-back and one left-back among David Moyes' senior options.
And the Blues could now be looking at the free agent market to at least bolster Moyes' centre-forward department with ex-Argentina international Icardi.
Beto's late-summer move to Fiorentina means that Thierno Barry is the only striker option for Moyes.
But could that soon change with Icardi joining Barry in the Everton striker position?

It had been reported in Argentina earlier this week that Icardi had been offered to Everton as the Rosario-born veteran seeks to find a new club.
With over 260 senior goals in his career, Icardi looks like the kind of player who could at least provide the Toffees with some much-needed experience up front.
As a result, former DAZN and Marca journalist Christian Vaquero reported on 8 September that while talks haven't yet been held between Everton and Icardi, the Blues "could initiate contacts in the coming days".
Everton only submitted 19 players in their 25-man Premier League squad last week, summing up just how badly managed their summer transfer window was.
Even if a late deal for Folarin Balogun didn't collapse, the Blues would have been short in many areas, leaving Moyes with the smallest squad in the division.
But that doesn't mean the Toffees should be rushing in to sign Icardi - nor should they be expected to.
Why the Icardi news might not be what it seems
Yes, Icardi is a striker who's scored goals for fun at an elite level throughout his career and even last term with Galatasaray, he netted a respectable tally of 16 goals.
However, we're yet to see news emerge in British circles to suggest Everton are keen, with the noise from Argentina and Spanish-speaking areas of the world potentially coming through agents in a bid to keep Icardi's name relevant.
On top of that, signing Icardi is a hassle, with the Argentine probably known more for his private life instead of his on-pitch record.
There's all sorts of dramatic and weird stuff going on with his former agent/wife Wanda Nara that Everton really don't want to get tied up in.
There's also the fact that he was earning over £150,000-a-week at Galatasarya last term, a fee that the Blues shouldn't - and wouldn't - agree to match.
