Everton may have just received renewed hope in their efforts to sign Chelsea striker Liam Delap this summer.

The Toffees have been linked with a move for the 23-year-old forward throughout the transfer window.

David Moyes wants new bodies through the door before the 1 September deadline, and Delap's name has consistently cropped up.

Tyrique George has signed permanently and Brennan Johnson has arrived in a swap deal with Crystal Palace for Dwight McNeil.

But Moyes would definitely welcome another central striker if a deal were able to be struck in the next couple of weeks.

And a new update on Delap's future might end up being music to Moyes' ears as he looks to strengthen his options.

What's the latest of Liam Delap's Chelsea future?

Everton were linked with Delap a year ago, and Moyes is said to have made an impression on the striker.

However, Delap ultimately opted to join Chelsea after leaving Ipswich Town, who had been relegated the season before.

But Delap struggled for regular minutes and form, scoring just once in 28 Premier League appearances for the Blues.

Joao Pedro is ahead of Delap in the pecking order, while Danny Welbeck's arrival could further hinder his minutes.

This week, Serie A side Como had been linked with a move for Delap, with the Italian side coached by former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

However, talkSPORT's chief transfer correspondent Alex Crook posted on X to report that Delap wants to stay in the Premier League.

He added that Chelsea want a £40million fee to sell Delap this summer.

What does this mean for Everton and Delap?

Well, this certainly throws a spanner in the works, doesn't it?

It had been suggested initially that Chelsea wanted £55m in order to sanction an exit for Delap.

It had been reported by the Daily Mail on Friday that Everton might have a chance of signing Delap on loan if other interested parties failed to strike a permanent deal.

But if the price is at £40m, is there a chance they could get creative in their attempts to bring him to Hill Dickinson Stadium?

Admittedly, it still feels like a big outlay considering there are several other areas of the squad that need attention.

So, a loan with an option or obligation to buy might be their best option.

But, right now, you have to say this latest update should certainly be giving Everton renewed hope they can strike a deal.
