Idrissa Gueye could make the difference in transfer business at Everton this summer.

The Senegal international faces an uncertain future on Merseyside as he edges towards the end of his contract in L3.

He didn't feature towards the end of the campaign as the Toffees' form dropped off in the final weeks.

The midfielder is now at the World Cup and remains a regular on the national stage.

It could be that which inspires Everton's next move as they look to add reinforcements this summer.

Why does Everton target Pape Gueye love playing with Idrissa Gueye?

It appears that midfield additions are on the cards at Hill Dickinson Stadium right now.

Hayden Hackney has been linked with a move from Middlesbrough and now defensive-minded options could be desired.

Pape Gueye has emerged as a target with Matteo Moretto revealing on Radio Marca that Everton are very keen on the on the 27-year-old.

The two are already teammates for Senegal and the Villarreal man has previously revealed how much he enjoys playing with the 36-year-old.

Speaking to l'Equipe in January, he said: "It's easier to play alongside him because he often tells you how the match is going to unfold.

"He's 36, but we joke around all the time—you'd think he was 20. We hope he keeps giving us everything he gives us because we need him."

Everton given incentive to offer Gueye new deal

There have been many questions aimed towards the Blues in recent weeks over the future of their defensive midfielder.

David Moyes described him as "incredible" in November and utilised him 25 times in the Premier League last season.

He is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, but it could be wise to pin him down in an attempt to bring in his namesake from Villarreal.

It is clear that the 27-year-old loves playing with the Everton man on the international stage and could replicate that in the Premier League moving into the new season.

That would all hinge on him completing a move to Hill Dickinson Stadium, which would likely come at a sizable cost to the Toffees.
