Everton urged to sign Karim Benzema as deadline day fallout continues

Everton have been told to turn their attention to free agent Karim Benzema.

The Toffees are a mess.

It had looked as if Folarin Balogun was set to come in from Monaco as the new number nine on Merseyside.

A new striker was certainly needed as Beto completed a permanent switch to Fiorentina in his own deadline day move.

The proposed move for the US international fell through at the last second, potentially forcing Everton to now take to the free agent market.

Why Karim Benzema could sign for Everton

The failure to bring in any of Balogun, Jamie Leweling or Tammy Abraham on deadline day has certainly angered the Blues faithful.

It has left David Moyes with just one recognised, senior striker in his ranks at this stage.

Things will remain that way until January, at least, unless the Scot looks to sign a free agent in the coming days or weeks.

Alan Brazil was asked on talkSPORT if he believes Benzema could be the man to solve Everton's woes.

Speaking live on Tuesday, he said: "I've not seen him [Benzema] for a while, but as a stop gap, yes. You can't just have one striker."

That move could be on the cards as the five-time Champions League winner mutually terminated his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal just days ago.

Brazil seemingly sees the Frenchman as a potential signing, but the Toffees may not be done their with free transfers.

Everton also backed to get free agent right-back

The L3 outfit needed a striker on deadline day and the failure to do so has rightly caused a massive amount of anger and frustration.

That same feeling has surrounded the hunt for a new right-back on Merseyside for years.

After all that time, Ainsley Maintland-Niles is the man to come in, despite having said that he prefers not to play right-back in the past.

Supporters aren't sold on the ex-Arsenal man and are still reeling for a true right-back signing.

There was another question on talkSPORT of whether Everton could move for former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal on a free.

Ally McCoist was quick to back the move, "Yes, that's a possibility."

That was quickly backed by his mate Brazil, "I'll go with that."

Should both of these come in, that would be a massive addition of experience and winning experience to the Toffees, but it is still so unlikely.
