Everton will rub their hands together over rapid change to Djed Spence's situation at Tottenham
Everton may be starting to grow in confidence that they can get the deal of the summer by signing Djed Spence.
The Toffees have made it their priority to sign a new right-back this summer, but are having a hard time finding the perfect target
There is a humongous list of names for the position, and Spence is the latest to be added.
The England international has surprised people at this year's World Cup, most recently impressing off the bench in the 2-1 win over Norway.
David Moyes will be keeping a close eye on the events that have so far unfolded in North America, and the Tottenham Hotspur full-back is said to be in his thoughts.
However, Spence's future at Spurs looks in doubt, and that's something that Everton will look to capitalise on.
Tottenham's Djed Spence fear shared amid Everton interest
Goodison News understands that Spence is on Everton's shortlist of potential right-back options after Strasbourg's Guela Doue was deemed out of the club's price range.
The Spurs defender has enjoyed a comeback at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after almost leaving the club as a failure not long ago.
However, The Standard have reported that there are no guarantees for Spence that he will get the game time he deserves next season, with Destiny Udogie "likely" to be the first-choice left-back, and Pedro Porro remaining untouchable after penning a "bumper" new deal.
It's suggested that the Everton-linked man's positive World Cup campaign isn't necessarily a good thing for the Lilywhites, with the player aware of his options this summer.
Given that Spence has no assurances over his Tottenham role, he may feel like he deserves a new club, especially given his important cameos off the bench for England at the World Cup.
He's gone from being a fairly under-the-radar asset for Tottenham to a well-known player who would start for the majority of Premier League sides.
Thankfully, the Toffees registered their interest early, as it could prove important when it comes to Spence making his final decision later this summer.
The one factor that could blow up Everton's move for Spence
Spence signed a new deal with Tottenham last year that will see him stay with the Lilywhites until 2029.
There's no doubt that the 25-year-old will be earning a salary in the low millions every year, which will only increase his market value.
Given that Doue was seen as too expensive for Everton at £40m, along with Arsenal's Ben White also emerging as too costly to sign, it begs the question as to whether the Toffees even have enough to steal England's surprise package of the summer.
