Everything Luka Modric has said about Everton January transfer target Petar Sucic
Luka Modric is a big fan of Everton January transfer target and Inter Milan midfielder Petar Sucic.
The Toffees are actively looking at which players can strengthen their squad in January after a controversial summer transfer window.
David Moyes only has one senior striker in Thierno Barry after a move for AS Monaco's Folarin Balogun collapsed in a deadline-day classic.
However, the Blues are also looking at what they can do behind the striker, with Sucic a player on their minds.
Inter Milan are considering selling the Croatian midfielder in the January window, not long after he made a £14million move from Dinamo Zagreb.
Everton could do no better than look at Modric's praise for Sucic if they are in need of extra vindication to push for a deal.
Why Luka Modric loves Everton target Petar Sucic
Everton's interest in Sucic has been revealed amid Inter's thoughts of selling in the winter window.
However, manager Christian Chivu still sees the 22-year-old as an important part of his plans in Italy, which could make the move harder for the Toffees to pull off.
The box-to-box midfielder is essentially fighting to prove a point at the Serie A club right now ahead of January, but Modric would most likely wonder why.
That's because the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner loves to play alongside Sucic for Croatia, and has always seen a bright future for his fellow midfield compatriot.
Modric said in 2025, as quoted by Football Italia: "He’s a very strong player and a great guy.
"We’ve already played together before, and he’s shown his qualities. It’s no coincidence that he’s signed for a top club like Inter. You will certainly get to know him a bit better and see his talent.
"I enjoy playing with him, and I hope that he always continues to improve. Even if we face each other in the derby soon, we will see how he treats me. Let’s hope he respects me and doesn’t go too quickly."
Modric currently plays for AC Milan, and there's a good chance that he could pass the baton to Sucic after his 20-year association with the Croatian national team.
That said, it would be a huge coup for Everton on paper.
What is the latest on Sucic?
Rumours of Sucic possibly leaving Inter came just after the international break, when he responded by scoring his first goal of the season in a 3-0 win over Parma in Serie A.
He then featured for the Italian giants against Club Brugge in the Champions League before playing the full 90 minutes in their most recent 3-1 league win over Bologna on Saturday.
As highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport, Sucic made a "mistake" in front of goal, failing to put his team 3-1 up late on, despite his effort having an xG of 0.68.
Thankfully for him, his teammate Ange-Yoan Bonny came off the bench to wrap up the points.
Every game matters for Sucic if reports are correct, and his latest display may have pushed him closer to Hill Dickinson.
