Christian Kofane's name has once again been linked with a potential move to Everton.

David Moyes is hoping to make a few more additions to his Everton squad before the end of the summer transfer window.

So far, only Tyrique George, Merlin Rohl and Hayden Hackney have signed this summer, leaving some Evertonians concerned not enough improvements have been made.

A new striker still appears to be on Everton's transfer wishlist, and 20-year-old Kofane would be a fascinating potential long-term investment to make.

He only joined Bayer Leverkusen from Spanish side Albacete last summer, and would score seven goals as well as provide six assists in 44 total appearances during his debut 2025-26 campaign in Germany.

Why Everton could be lining up new Christian Kofane approach

Capable of playing in attacking midfield as well as the lone striker, Kofane would bring some nice versatility to Everton's forward line.

However, Toffees chiefs also have a lot of other transfer business to sort through this summer, all of which arguably more important than Kofane.

A right-back remains the big priority, whilst there still could be a deal to figure out to bring Jack Grealish back to Hill Dickinson Stadium on a permanent basis.

On top of that, Moyes does have a number of options in attack, with Beto providing a solid presence with the potential for more, Thierno Barry ended last season well and Tyler Dibling could take a big leap in his second year.

But according to an X post made by Marca reporter Matteo Moretto, Everton have now enquired about signing Kofane from Leverkusen.

That's all the detail Moretto goes into, but it's enough to indicate that the Toffees still have the Cameroonian international on their minds.

But why is this update a strange one, and why will many Everton fans feel like no progress is being made regarding his signature?

As claimed in a report from Africa Foot in early July, Everton were said to have made a "concrete offer" to sign Kofane this summer.

It's been widely reported over the last few months that a number of top sides across European football are tracking the young forward, as he's evidently a highly-rated prospect for the future.

Then the fire for an Everton deal was stoked even further in early July, as Kofane's agent Eric Depolo was reportedly at Everton's training ground to discuss a possible move, according to Daily Arsenal journalist David Schill at the time.

Since then, however, talk of a potential Merseyside move has gone quiet, but transfer noise surrounding him and Everton is set to increase again now after Moretto's latest reveal.
