Everton fans aren't totally sold on the potential signing of Alistair Johnston from Celtic.

The Toffees have been desperate for a right-back signing across many years.

Seamus Coleman was regularly utilised before his departure, while Jake O'Brien was forced to play there across the last two seasons.

That has been a constant source of annoyance for Blues fans and is something that needs sorting this summer.

After waiting so long, an exciting option is wanted, but it doesn't look as if that's going to happen.

Johnston has been linked with a move, all while the Friedkin Groups arrange better deals elsewhere.

Friedkins want £21m right-back at Roma

There is always going to be one eye from Hill Dickinson Stadium on the progress at Roma.

The link between the two clubs is there due to the ownership group.

Many feel as though the Serie A outfit are being given preferential treatment due to the signings they've made recently.

They were very keen on signing Crysencio Summerville for over £40million before his Saudi Arabia switch, while also having the likes of Paulo Dybala, Donyell Malen and £19m signing Robinio Vaz on their books.

That level of player have been few and far between on Merseyside and annoyance has only continued to build with this right-back scenario.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday that Roma have tabled a £21m bid for Feyenoord's Givairo Read.

Talks are now ongoing for his signature in a potential swoop for one of Europe's most exciting young full backs.

That has only stepped up frustration for the Toffees faithful as they showcase interest in Johnston of Celtic.

Goodison News has now covered Everton interest in Johnston at Celtic this summer.

A Wednesday report from the Daily Record suggests that a "significant offer" could be in the pipeline.

The Blues are yet to make a bid at this stage, but a fee in the region of £10m could be paid for the Canada international.

Considering he's only played in Canada, America and Scotland, he's doesn't truly have the experience that David Moyes' side need.

That is frustrating in itself, then you throw in the idea that a linked club in Roma is signing a 20-year-old with bags of potential for £21m.

Read would be a top-class signing for Everton and could solve their woes this summer, but it once again feels as though the Friedkins are picking favourites and siding with Roma.
