How Everton-linked strikers have performed at World Cup as Folarin Balogun stands out
Everton's search for a new striker could be solved by Folarin Balogun.
David Moyes is understood to be keen on a new attacker, as he tries to put his side into a position to qualify for European football.
The Blues narrowly missed out on that ambition last season, with a four point deficit to Sunderland, who took the final spot.
Balogun is one of Everton's potential targets for the position, as they seek improvements in the transfer market.
The likes of Thierno Barry and Beto have failed to impress, and an upgrade could well be targeted this summer.
Whether Balogun is the best option or another World Cup target takes the fancy of the recruitment team, remains to be seen.
Why Folarin Balogun could be Everton's answer to number nine problem
Balogun was already well known in English football circles, due to his time in Arsenal's academy.
He spent 14 years in the Gunners' ranks before moving to Monaco, after spells with Middlesbrough and Reims on loan.
The 24-year-old, who scored 13 Ligue 1 goals last season, has taken plenty of headlines at the tournament, scoring three goals for the hosts so far.
He was sent off in their round of 32 clash with Bosnia after an unfortunate tangle with Tarik Muharemovic, so will miss the Belgium contest next time out.
His underlying numbers have been impressive, with 4.40 shots and 9.20 touches in the opposition box per 90, according to data from Fotmob.
While the £43million rated star will miss out on the round of 16 game, another target's side did not even make it there.
Ayase Ueda could be an alternative for Everton
The Toffees are reportedly one of the clubs to be tracking Feyenoord ace Ayase Ueda, who scored 24 goals in 31 league matches last season.
The Japan forward has been another impressive attacker at the tournament, with two goals and one assist.
Unfortunately, he could not help the Blue Samurai as they suffered a late defeat to Brazil and were knocked out in the round of 32.
The 27-year-old averaged 2.50 shots and 3.33 touches in the opposition box, suggesting that he is not as much of a handful as Balogun.
Unlike Ueda, another option was not even involved in the knockout stages of the competition.
Wilson Isidor could be a Premier League proven option for Moyes' side
The Merseysiders will be very familiar with Wilson Isidor, as he notched the last goal in a 3-1 win for Sunderland in May.
That was one of six top-flight goals for the Haiti international, and he also impressed at the tournament.
The minnows put up a brilliant fight despite losing to Scotland, Brazil and Morocco and being eliminated in the group stages.
His own personal highlight came in the clash with the African side, when he scored a thumping right footed effort from outside the area.
In terms of the data, he took 2.39 shots and 1.91 touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes.
He had nowhere near the impact that Balogun had, but that may not be a fair comparison given the respective strengths of their teams.
It seems as though Balogun is the best option for the L3 side, based on the numbers.
