How Liverpool's Curtis Jones sale could drive Everton transfer for all-rounder
Everton may have Liverpool's sale of Curtis Jones to thank if they can pull off a January coup of their own.
Jones made the move to Inter Milan in August for a fee of around £30million.
He has become an instant fan favourite at San Siro, with many Liverpool fans questioning the sale.
And it may well be that Everton can inadvertently profit from that down the line.
A central midfielder is far from a priority target for the Toffees, but an opportunity may have just arisen to sign one.
That is amid fresh reports that circulated on Monday.
Who are Everton potentially in for this January?
Everton showed an interest in signing Petar Sucic from Inter in the summer window.
Nothing came of it, with the Italian side preferring to keep the midfielder and the player himself not wanting a move.
But Inter may be more willing to selling Sucic in January amid that recent interest from Everton, Newcastle United and others.
Sucic, described as an all-rounder by Zvonimir Boban, is playing fewer minutes this season due to increased competition for places.
Jones' arrival has only added to that competition, and he appears to be a player Inter tend to build around judging by the fee spent to sign him.
The irony will not be lost on anyone at Everton that Liverpool selling Jones to Inter could in turn force Sucic to the blue half of Merseyside.
What is Petar Sucic's contract situation at Inter?
Sucic cost Inter around £12m to sign from Dinamo Zagreb last year and is under contract at San Siro until 2030.
There is no chance the Italian side will make a loss on the Croatia international, so the asking price will be a fair bit higher than that.
Everton's focus may well have shifted elsewhere in the months since they showed an initial interest in Sucic.
If not, January appears to be the time to pounce if Inter are indeed ready to cash in and the player is open to a move.
