How Orjan Nyland to Everton could open up after Norway World Cup exit
Orjan Nyland has popped up on Everton's radar ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Norwegian goalkeeper had been excelling at the 2026 World Cup and was only narrowly knocked out by England, with his mistake unfortunate.
During the 2-1 defeat on Saturday, the shot-stopper frustrated England on many occasions, making six saves through the whole 120 minutes.
Now, he could be set to link up with his then-opponent Jordan Pickford at Hill Dickinson Stadium next season.
Mark Travers has been linked with a move out of Everton, and that would free up space in the squad.
And the arrival of another goalkeeper would be a necessity for the Toffees ahead of next season.
What has been said about Everton's interest in Orjan Nyland?
Nyland was one of the standout goalkeepers of the 2026 World Cup, so it is no surprise that multiple transfer links for him have emerged.
Now, Everton are one of the latest to be mentioned alongside the former Sevilla goalkeeper's name.
Nyland is currently a free agent after his contract with the La Liga side expired, offering a cost-effective transfer for Everton.
Spanish outlet El Desmarque has reported the Blues' interest in the goalkeeper.
They state that Everton have inquired about the possibility of bringing him to Merseyside and that an approach has been made.
The move is two-fold for the Norwegian. On the one hand, it is said that the financial offer is "attractive" for the 35-year-old.
However, due to him coming in to play deputy to Pickford, it is less attractive from a sporting perspective.
Everton are not alone in the race, with Feyenoord, as well as teams in Germany and Italy, said to be keeping tabs.
Nyland has not yet decided on his future, but Norway's World Cup exit will certainly have him needing to make a decision soon, as the start of the next season looms.
Why Nyland's experience could appeal to Everton
Nyland is no stranger to being part of a squad as second-choice, and that experience in dealing with that could be vital.
It is no easy job to sit back and watch another goalkeeper start over you.
Travers has seemingly found that difficulty with his exit out of Everton now looking likely.
Wrexham are front-runners to sign Travers in the summer transfer window.
But, Nyland, who has spent time at Aston Villa and Bournemouth previously with a limited amount of games could see it as another chance to take a crack in the Premier League.
David Moyes would certainly give him appearances in the cup games, and his experience could help Everton finally move closer to winning one of thos trophies.
