James Tarkowski may find himself surplus to requirements at Everton next season.

The Toffees simply have to qualify for Europe next season, or even more questions will be asked of their ambition and direction under The Friedkin Group.

However, to do so, they will have to ensure they get their recruitment plans right this summer.

Everton have alerady been linked with a whole host of players, with some more likely than others, and adding a right-back is set to be a priority.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka may well prove to be the player to rectify that concern, with Everton having expressed an interest in the West Ham star.

But if that deal were to progress, questions would have to be asked of Tarkowski's future.

Wan-Bissaka deal could see Tarkowski come redundant

There will be questions if it were to happen, but Wan-Bissaka would be a good addition for Everton, and for several reasons.

He's arguably one of the best, if not the best defender when it comes to one-vs-one duels, which is what the Toffees need, while also adding some pace their backline.

Both of those attributes are likely to be on show with the Hammers star set to feature at the World Cup for DR Congo.

However, his arrival would start a domino effect involving Tarkowski and Jake O'Brien.

The latter would almost certainly retain his starting spot, but in his more preferred position at centre-back, which is where Tarkowski has been utitlised.

Given his age, Michael Keane may also find himself replaced in the coming months, with Everton in need of some youthfulness across their backline.

Where else could Everton strengthen this summer?

Aside from the burning need for a natural right-back, Everton also simply must recruit a new striker.

Lois Openda has been mooted as a target, but whether or not that deal is even looked at, he certainly is the right profile.

Everton need a pacy forward capable of offering something different to Thierno Barry and Beto.

Replacing, or even bringing Jack Grealish back to Hill Dickinson will also be a priority, with a big summer ahead as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Will they achieve it? Only time will tell.
