Liam Delap likened to Romelu Lukaku as Everton could repeat transfer trick
Liam Delap has been linked with a move to Everton, and if he were to sign and turn out like Romelu Lukaku, the Toffees would have zero complaints.
The Blues will assess the market for a new striker this summer, as Thierno Barry and Beto both have an uncertain future at Hill Dickinson.
Beto has openly said that he doesn't know exactly where he stands with the Blues, as David Moyes could look to replace him.
It must be said that Everton do have more pressing priorities to improve on, namely the right-back spot and in midfield.
The start of the summer window always sees some interesting names linked, as even Lukaku has been suggested for a return to Merseyside.
However, if Delap had a similar career to the Belgian striker at Everton, a transfer move this summer could be seen as a great success in the future, despite early concerns.
Liam Delap compared to the 'chewed up and spat out' Romelu Lukaku
According to Sky Sports, Everton have explored the possibility of signing Delap on loan from Chelsea.
This conveniently comes at a time when the Toffees have been approached by RB Leipzig for Barry, with a striker reshuffle on the cards this summer.
However, many Evertonians have had early reservations about the 23-year-old, who has only scored one time in 28 Premier League matches this season.
Writing for the Liverpool Echo, local journalist Chris Beesley delivered the verdict that the Toffees should sign the Englishman and likened him to Lukaku.
Beesley wrote: "Delap seems to be the football version of Marmite among Evertonians. Delap did well in an Ipswich Town side that were relegated, but then struggled badly at Chelsea.
"In his defence, even frontmen like Lukaku have been chewed up and spat out there."
Delap isn't the only star who has done well elsewhere in the Premier League before moving to Chelsea and struggling.
Just look at the more recent examples with the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Axel Disasi and Raheem Sterling.
What's now been said about Everton's striker situation?
Some Everton fans will suggest that the Toffees need to improve their striker department if they are to be in with a chance of being serious next season.
Whether Delap would be the answer remains to be seen, though the former Ipswich man looks likely to leave Stamford Bridge in some capacity.
The Athletic reported on Wednesday that unless one of Beto and Barry leaves, the Toffees are unlikely to sign a new centre-forward.
However, it's already been said the Everton figures would assess the potential of selling Barry, should RB Leipzig submit an official offer.
