Villarreal drop subtle hint on Pape Gueye's future after Everton transfer latest

Pape Gueye continues to be linked with a move from Villarreal to Everton.

The Toffees are in need of a fresh face at the base of midfield ahead of the new campaign.

They may have brought in Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough, but he won't solve their defensive woes in the middle of the park.

That has been known for many weeks as Idrissa Gana Gueye's contract came to an end on Merseyside.

He certainly won't be easy to replace due to his sizable experience, but his Senegal teammate and namesake could be an ideal option.

Villarreal have now shared an insight as Everton eye a move for Gueye this summer.

There will be hope that the Toffees can get a deal over the line for the 27-year-old ready for the new Premier League season.

That may not be progressing as many would hope in L3 after the Senegalese ace was spotted in Villarreal training.

The LaLiga outfit shared footage that saw the midfielder in an exercise where the players have to hold hands in a circle and keep the ball in the air as they move.

That doesn't seem to bode well for Everton, although it shouldn't take away from their efforts to sign the 1999-born ace.

How much could Everton pay for Gueye?

There have been plenty of reports linking the defensive-minded man with a L3 move.

Given his recent experience at the World Cup and AFCON, he won't come cheap.

The suggestion is that he could cost anywhere between £24million and £34m.

At either end of that spectrum, it could represent an excellent piece of business for the Blues.

They just need to hope that a deal can actually be forced over the line despite Gueye being back in training at Villarreal.
