However, now things may be beginning to make much more sense amid what has been revealed about Wheatley's prospective role in L3.

Everton want to add a striker this summer window, but even if Wheatley is signed that should not stop their pursuit of another number nine.

That is because, according to the Daily Mail, Wheatley is not viewed as a new addition to aid Moyes' squad for the upcoming season; rather, the Englishman is for Everton's academy.

It also shares that the two sides are now in talks.

Everton's technical director Nick Cox had previously worked with Wheatley during his time overseeing Manchester United's academy.

So, you may suspect that this move is largely being put forward by Cox and not Moyes himself.

Wheatley was highly regarded within the Old Trafford side's academy.

The Blues will likely still dip into the transfer window to add names to their first-team squad.

Just over the last few days, there have been numerous reports of Everton tracking attackers.

The obvious candidate would be Braiden Graham who has emerged as one of Everton's standout academy prospects.

In the last Premier League 2 season, he netted 12 goals in 18 matches at 18 years old.

Overall though, Wheatley to Everton is an interesting move that certainly should be kept an eye on.
