Why Beto has moved closer to Everton exit as Fiorentina chief takes action

Beto may now be as close to leaving Everton as he's ever been.

The 28-year-old has somewhat flattered to deceive during his time as an Everton player.

Since joining from Udinese in the summer of 2023, he's never scored more than nine Premier League goals in a single season.

Indeed, he's scored just 25 times in 112 career appearances for the Toffees, and could yet leave before the 1 September transfer deadline.

The Guinea-Bissau international appears to have lost favour under David Moyes in the early weeks of the 2026-27 season.

However, there is a club on the continent that appears very much keen to give the striker a fresh start this summer.

Why do Fiorentina need to accelerate Beto transfer?

It was reported earlier this week that Man United's Joshua Zirkzee is Fiorentina's main target over Beto.

As a result, this threw into some doubt the likelihood of the Everton man completing a move to the Serie A side before the window shuts.

But in a fresh update from Italy on Saturday morning, the goalposts appear to have changed.

Corriere dello Sport claim that whilst Fiorentina are waiting on a response from Zirkzee, they're not wasting time lining up a deal for Beto either.

It's reported that if Zirkzee doesn't join them, then Beto will.

The report also claims that Fiorentina sporting director Fabio Paratici submitted an official bid to Everton for Beto.

Fiorentina need to bring a striker in soon, as they are reported to have a £38.5million exit agreed for Moise Kean to join Como, but only when his replacement signs.

So, should Everton feel comfortable letting Beto leave at this stage of the summer window, and would a replacement be needed?

Moyes shouldn't have any qualms about cashing in on Beto

Now in his fourth season at Everton, Beto has had enough time and chances to show he can be a top striker at Premier League level.

Unfortunately, he's not been able to do that with the Toffees, and he's only contracted at Hill Dickinson Stadium until next summer too.

The likelihood of Everton being willing to offer him a fresh extension seems highly unlikely, so selling him whilst they still can is sensible.

On top of that, Thierno Barry seems to be really evolving into a very good player too, with four goals from his first two games in all competitions this term.

Add in the fact Moyes has Tyrique George and Tyler Dibling for additional depth, and Beto shouldn't be held back from leaving before the deadline.
