Why Bundesliga-leading Jamie Leweling would improve Everton in unique way

Everton would be getting far more than your typical winger with Jamie Leweling.

The 25-year-old has cropped up in Everton transfer circles this summer, after enjoying a career 2025-26 campaign with Stuttgart.

He scored 11 times and provided 12 assists in 50 total appearances for the German Bundesliga side.

That form earned him a place in Germany's World Cup squad this summer, but he was only able to make one 30-minute cameo in the tournament.

Now entering the prime of his career, Leweling could be ready to try his hand in the Premier League.

And if Everton are to secure his signature, then David Moyes would actually be improving in defence as much as he would in attack.

How Jamie Leweling led Bundesliga wingers in key defensive areas

Goodison News has discussed the attacking qualities Leweling would bring to Everton, but that's not where his impact would end.

As per FotMob, Leweling's 30 clearances ranked him in the top three percentile of Bundesliga left wingers in 2025-26.

Meanwhile, his 44 fouls won placed him in the top four per cent amongst his positional rivals, whilst his 109 duels won ranked him in the top 14.1 per cent.

Leweling also placed amongst the top-performing players in his position for defensive contributions (68), tackles (22), interceptions (14), recoveries (97) and possessions won in the final third (16).

The same can be said for his 12 aerial duels won and his six clean sheets, standing him out as one of the best defensive wingers in the Bundesliga right now.

Iliman Ndiaye is also one of the very best defensive wingers in the Premier League too, so if he's to leave Merseyside this summer, then bringing in Leweling could go a long way to replacing the qualities he would leave behind.

So, he looks like a player that Moyes and Evertonians would instantly fall in love with, but what is his contract situation at Stuttgart and does it work in the Toffees' favour?

Why Stuttgart hold all the cards for Leweling

Everton are a club who always look to complete shrewd transfer business, working within their financial means in the search for bargains.

Many avenues to such deals lie in a player's contract situation, with their parent club often being less able to resist offers if the player's current deal is set to expire imminently.

However, that's not the case with Leweling and Stuttgart, as the German's wisely inked him to a long-term deal upon signing him in the summer of 2024.

Leweling initially penned a four-year deal with them, but would soon extend his contract by a further 12 months in December 2024.

That means he's tied down there until the summer of 2029, and so any opportunity for a bargain buy doesn't exist here.
