Why Jamie Leweling is now the perfect answer to Everton's growing problem

Everton's 1-0 loss to Stoke City proved the Toffees need better attackers, and Stuttgart star Jamie Leweling can be the answer.

The performance against the Potters in the final third was ultimately flat, and David Moyes' men struggled to break the Championship side down.

While, it was simply only a pre-season fixture, Everton have now failed to score in two of their three friendlies so far.

Transfer business has been frustratingly slow for the Blues and the Premier League season is not too far away now.

As the season draws closer, expectations will be that the L3 outfit finally begin to move into more advanced talks with those on their shortlist.

And Leweling should be part of that thinking.

Why Jamie Leweling would be perfect for Everton

Everton's interest in Leweling dates to before the World Cup but the need to sign him is only growing stronger.

When it comes to the type of winger the German is, he would certainly be a forward his teammates enjoy playing with.

According to Data.MB, Leweling is quite fond of sending crosses into the box, with him emerging in third place for crosses per 90 (4.56) in the Bundesliga.

And he finished in fourth for accurate crosses per 90 (1.61).

As Goodison News have previously reported, Everton's Iliman Ndiaye could be on his way out amid interest from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

In that instance, the Blues would once more have to dip into the wide attacker market and Leweling makes the most sense out of those reportedly on their shortlist.

With those crossing statistics, strikers such as Beto and Thierno Barry would be able to thrive due to their tall statures.

What is the latest on Leweling's future?

After last season's performances and making his way into Germany's World Cup squad, many top clubs have been put on notice regarding Leweling.

Bournemouth have seen the six-cap German international reject their proposal this summer with Bulinews relaying it was an "unattractive" offer.

Interestingly, AS Roma are also eyeing Leweling according to Il Messaggero. If that move works out, it would see Roma scoop up another Everton target, following Santiago Castro.

However, it does seem that Leweling is viewed among Europe as an attainable target and for Everton that is a boost.

If Ndiaye does leave, Everton should look to push forward with their interest in the German.
