Why Everton have just been given even more encouragement in Hector Fort pursuit
Everton have been handed yet another boost in the pursuit of right-back Hector Fort.
The Blues are said to hold interest in the Barcelona full-back, with the Catalan club open to selling this summer.
Right-back is by far the biggest priority for David Moyes, but as things stand, he is not set to have one in place before the Premier League's opening weekend.
Recent reports have said Fort's future is days away from being decided, with Real Sociedad among the sides chasing his signature.
But the landscape has once again changed in the ever-so-fast-moving transfer market.
Another update has now emerged, and it spells positive news for the Toffees.
The new boost Everton have received in Hector Fort race
There is plenty of competition in the battle to sign Fort this summer.
And Everton will be hoping they are the ones that win that race. Now, that possibility has been boosted by a decision made by another of the interested parties.
According to Sport, Real Sociedad have already decided to withdraw from the race for Fort.
This is due to the San Sebastien-based side looking for a loan deal at the current £12.8million price the La Liga champions have set.
Additionally, Sociedad would have gone for a permanent transfer if that price was reduced. The same has been said about Elche.
Now, the report shares that Fort is being "pushed to accept" a move out of Spain, which is positive news for Everton.
Borussia Dortmund and Fulham now remain as the other two sides competing with the Merseyside outfit.
All three have a clear understanding of the price set and that Barcelona are willing to negotiate around their valuation.
Why Everton can be attractive destination for Fort
Right-back has long been a position desperately needed in Everton's squad.
And that is a positive for their negotiations now.
Any player they approach to possibly play on the right of defence would come into the Hill Dickinson side with a near guarantee of game time.
Yes, Moyes may still opt to use the likes of Jake O'Brien at right-back on occasion due to rotation, but surely any incoming transfer would immediately slot in as first choice.
Everton can offer a guaranteed starting role, something Borussia Dortmund cannot do with Julian Ryerson at the Bundesliga side.
