Why Everton move for Guela Doue isn't dead in the water despite £40m Strasbourg demand
Guela Doue to Everton looks to still be on the cards this summer.
The Ivory Coast international, who played at the World Cup for his nation, has long been mentioned as a target for the Blues.
However, concerns over Strasbourg's asking price had seemingly made any move for the full-back implausible.
But as the summer window winds down, and with not long left for the Toffees to sort out the right-back role, Doue could be back on the agenda.
A new update has emerged on the latest involving the Blues' right-back hunt.
Three key names have been mentioned, and one of them is Strasbourg's Doue.
The three right-back options Everton like as search continues
Everton have not been short of options this summer, and it has felt like they cast a wide net in search of a right-back.
There have been more than a handful of right-backs linked with a move to L3 this window.
But as the window nears an end, that list may now be shrinking.
According to Sky Sports on Thursday afternoon, there are three players Moyes' side are looking at before the window closes.
Those are Ben White, Daniel Munoz and Doue, all of whom are liked by the Toffees.
However, Strasbourg's demand of £40million for their defender is said to be a potential hurdle.
Nonetheless, out of those three, the report shares that Moyes would prefer to sign Doue.
And that may see them try to test Strasbourg's resolve.
Should Everton muster up the Doue asking price?
Whether or not Everton pay the £40m price for Doue would depend on if they still want to complete more business.
As per links elsewhere in the media, a striker and another winger appear to be wanted by the Blues this summer.
But if Moyes is happy to go into the season with Beto and Thierno Barry as his number nines, and be content with Brennan Johnson, Tyrique George, Iliman Ndiaye and Tyler Dibling out wide, then why not go for Doue?
Right-back has been a long-term problem and splashing the cash on a player that could solve it for years to come would be a smart investment.
Doue would also offer more re-sale value should the move not work out this season.
Munoz is 30 years old, with White coming in at 28 years of age. Doue is only 23 and has plenty of time to grow into what the Toffees need in defence.
