Everton could still yet sign Folarin Balogun from Monaco.

This may sound controversial, but it would make total sense for the Toffees to sign the US international in January.

To many, the striker let the Merseyside club down and would struggle to forgive him for walking out on them.

He had looked set to move on deadline day in a £40million move.

That had certainly got supporters excited at Hill Dickinson Stadium after letting Beto go to Fiorentina.

There may be hope that a deal can be revisited in January and allow Everton to seal a cut-price deal for Balogun.

Why Folarin Balogun could be available for bargain at Monaco

There was no secret in the final days of the transfer window that the Ligue 1 outfit needed to sell stars.

That was made clear by their CEO, Thiago Scuro, as his side struggle to comply with UEFA rules.

As per Get French Football News, he said: "We have to sell someone before July, otherwise there could be UEFA sanctions, but the priority is to protect performance."

That looked set to be Balogun before he ultimately walked away from Finch Farm.

Everton's decision to try and change the deal after complications in a striker's medical was to blame, but only hampered everyone involved in the deal.

Monaco failed to make any permanent sale in the end, so they will be in a poor negotiating position when the winter window comes around.

Would Balogun want to join Everton?

It seems that the forward wasn't a fan of being messed around with on deadline day.

That may be seen by many as fair enough, but the Toffees were right to protect their own interests.

Should the potential of a cut-price January move be on the cards, Everton will likely be interested.

After being described as a "spearhead" of the US national team by Mauricio Pochettino, there is good reason why he's wanted in L3.

It will all come down to whether the American wants to revisit a move to Merseyside.
