Why it now looks like Newcastle are willing to let Jacob Murphy join Everton
Everton are looking to complete their fourth deal of the summer by bringing in Newcastle's Jacob Murphy.
Hayden Hackney is the only new player to arrive through the door so far, alongside the permanent deals completed for Merlin Rohl and Tyrique George.
The ongoing window is a big one for the Toffees, who missed out on European football at the end of last season in gutting fashion.
On the eve of the March international break, David Moyes' side were flying in the continental spots, before it all went wrong .
Seven winless matches later, and Everton would end the season in 13th.
Murphy is among those targeted to bring attacking reinforcements, and the Blues may have received a boost thanks to Newcastle's stance.
Newcastle downturn comes at a good time for Everton
After returning to the Champions League, Eddie Howe's Newcastle endured a poor 2025-26 season.
As a result, big players have left in Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, while Bruno Guimaraes is also linked with a switch to Arsenal.
The Magpies have already acted to replace Gordon, by bringing in Ivorian wideman Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim.
But, Sky Sports report that they would be in need of another winger should Murphy leave the club this summer.
Newcastle have been active in the transfer window so far, and have shown intent in filling needed positions in the early stages.
With this in mind, Everton may be able to get a deal done for Murphy sooner rather than later, if the speed of Newcastle's business continues at the current rate.
Howe's group experienced a sharp downturn last season, sparking the ongoing rebuild, and the Toffees could now be one of those ready to benefit from this.
Everton fans need not panic after Jacob Murphy reservations
At 31, Murphy is not exactly on the younger side - naturally raising concerns among a frustrated Everton fanbase.
But, the signings of Hackney and George do indicate a shift towards a younger transfer policy.
If Murphy is simply an addition to compliment the younger direction, it would be perfect for the Toffees.
Fans are frustrated as a result of Moyes' stubbornness, and it is easy to see why.
But, if Murphy is simply a smart addition to the squad, and not a marquee addition, a deal makes complete sense for all parties.
