Why Jonathan Rowe may be perfect Everton complement to Jack Grealish amid fresh chatter

Jonathan Rowe could help Everton to reach a new level in the upcoming season.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the Bologna forward, but they are also trying to bring Jack Grealish back.

The veteran spent last season on loan with the Toffees, but they did not activate the £50million buy option in that deal.

Rowe has also emerged as a target, and that may leave supporters questioning whether they could sign the pair of them.

However, both left wingers could complement each other really well on Merseyside.

While Grealish is known for his chance creation, Rowe would be more of a direct goal threat for David Moyes' side.

In 28 matches, he notched three goals and two assists, compared to two and six for the Manchester City man.

The England Under-21 star averaged 2.68 shots per 90 compared to 1.43 for the Toffees loanee, per Fotmob data.

Grealish has the edge when it comes to chance creation with 2.10 per 90, with Rowe recording just 1.17.

The 10-cap youth international records 5.25 touches in the opposition box per game, and the senior England hopeful averages 5.79.

Why double signing makes sense for Everton

Clearly, Grealish and Rowe have different strengths, but that does not mean that Moyes' side should push one aside, and focus solely on a move for the other.

They would complement each other well, and if the Blues are struggling create, they could bring Grealish into the fold.

Meanwhile, in times when they are creative but struggling to score, get Rowe - hailed "absolutely electric" by Darren Huckbery in the past - in the mix instead.

It would also make sense due to the former Aston Villa star's age. He is 30 years old, and will not be around forever.

Rowe is just 23 years old, so he is only going to get better and better throughout the next few years.

It would be a pretty intimidating partnership to have at their disposal if they can agree deals for both players.

That remains to be seen, but it should not be ruled out, given that they are targeting a European berth.
