Why the Friedkin Group must face the music as Everton's owners demanded to apologise

Everton were involved in a flurry of late drama on deadline day that they would have wanted to avoid.

The Blues have been left in an incredibly tough position, following the decisions to allow Beto to depart, and Iliman Ndiaye's sale to Manchester City.

Deals were underway to replace Beto, and Jack Grealish has arrived to replace Ndiaye's place within the squad.

However, Folarin Balogun, the primary target to join Everton, ultimately decided to walk away from joining the Merseyside outfit.

What has been said about Everton's end to the window?

There will be none other than David Moyes that will be furious with how Everton ended the window.

They sold one of their stars, allowed a striker to leave and then failed to get a replacement over the line.

The Toffees did manage to sign a right-back in Ainsely Maitland-Niles, but they have been left incredibly short.

It is no surprise that public reaction to the windows end has been fierce, with journalist and talkSPORT presenter Henry Winter taking to social media.

He stated: "At the very least, Everton owe their frustrated fans some form of explanation for that chaotic, embarrassing and deeply disappointing transfer window."

Winter went on to urge the leadership to front up to Everton fans.

He said: "The Friedkin Group, the club’s CEO Angus Kinnear and the recruitment committee owe it to fans - the lifeblood of the club - to justify/clarify/apologise for a situation which saw Balogun not sign, a star like Ndiaye leave, Beto go, Armstrong almost sold, and failed late attempts for Zirkzee, Abraham and Tete."

Toffees fans will undoubtedly agree with that assessment as their squad is quite bare.

Everton's squad issues analysed after transfer window closes

Everton will now have to hope and rely on Thierno Barry's fitness throughout the 2026-2027 season.

The Frenchman is the only out-and-out striker at Everton now, and will likely have to play a majority of the games for the Blues.

Moyes has limited options to turn to from the bench, in order to try to change a game, or bring something different onto the pitch.

Meanwhile, Everton's fullback issues are continuing to roll into this campaign.

Vitalii Mykolenko and Maitland-Niles are the only natural fullbacks at Finch Farm, with any injuries or suspensions forcing Moyes to play someone out of position.

The Blues had time to solve their issues, and have ended the window with seemingly more than they originally had.
