Everton transfer round-up: Carlos Alcaraz medical update, Championship gem wanted

Everton are leaving the bulk of their transfer business late as they look to strengthen David Moyes’ squad before the window closes.

Following a quiet January featuring zero incomings and a pair of academy departures, the Toffees are stepping up their activity in the final days of the window ahead of the 11pm deadline on 3 February.

Moyes has overseen three straight Premier League victories in the wake of injuries to some key players at Goodison Park, and this is set to play a key role in how his squad looks at the end of the window.

Here, Goodison News rounds up all the developing transfer stories at the close of play on Sunday, 2 February.

Carlos Alcaraz passes medical ahead of Everton transfer

He’s been billed as the headliner of the winter window at Goodison Park, and Brazilian journalist Bruno Lemos has now reported (via X) on 2 February that Carlos Alcaraz has passed his medical at Finch Farm.

Alcaraz flew into the UK on Saturday ahead of completing a loan move from Flamengo until the end of the season, including a mandatory purchase option if he plays a certain number of games for the Blues [Eduardo Burgos, 1 February].

The Argentine is now expected to sign a contract with the Toffees on Monday, and with his medical passed and no hiccups detected, the stage is set for Moyes’ first addition of the window.

Everton one of several clubs keen on late Timothy Weah swoop

Moyes is faced with having just one fit striker on the books until the end of February at the least, and Ed Aarons has reported that he could turn to versatile Juventus forward Timothy Weah to fill the gaps.

The Guardian journalist posted on X (2 February) to report that the Toffees, Fulham and RB Leipzig are all keen on signing Weah before the deadline, although Juventus are hesitant to sanction a transfer.

Weah could still be on the move before 11pm on Monday, but any approach from Goodison looks set to go down to the wire.

Torino target Beto set to stay but after Everton developments

Throughout this transfer window, Beto is the player who has looked the most likely to be heading out of Merseyside, with any transfer fee brought in expected to be used to fund moves the other way.

However, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja’s injuries have made Beto the Blues’ first-choice striker by default, and Italian outlet Toro.it now report that Torino face an “uphill battle” to sign him.

Beto netted twice as Moyes’ side dispatched Leicester 4-0 on Saturday, and a last-gasp exit to Torino or any other Serie A side now looks off the cards unless he can be adequately replaced in time.

Everton keen on late swoop for Championship ace

Evertonians’ want for a winger, particularly right-sided, has not waned despite the imminent addition of Alcaraz, and Graeme Bailey reports on 2 February that they’ve joined the race for Tommy Watson.

The 18-year-old Sunderland winger has burst onto the scene under Regis Le Bris this season but has just 18 months remaining on his contract at the Stadium of Light, attracting the interest of the Toffees.

It remains to be seen if the Blues launch an approach in the final hours of the transfer window or wait until the summer, but with Watson’s stock only rising, expect a bit to come in sooner rather than later.

In other Everton news, one pundit slammed a “scandalous” moment in the Toffees’ victory over Leicester last time out.
