Adam Aznou suffers nightmare start to life at Malaga after Everton loan exit

Adam Aznou's wait for his Malaga debut is set to continue with the Everton loanee struggling to settle down in Spain.

The 20-year-old left-back joined the La Liga side on a season-long loan in August.

However, he's yet to take to the field for Malaga, meaning that his only appearance still this season was a brief substitute appearance in the Carabao Cup win over Preston last month.

Aznou made the bench for Malaga's 0-0 draw with Levante on 6 September but has since missed a draw with Celta Vigo due to illness and was ruled out of Thursday night's loss to Villarreal.

After his stomach bug stopped him from being involved against Celta, it now seems as though the Everton loanee actually has an injury issue to worry about.

And that doesn't bode well for Aznou making his Malaga debut before the international break.

Adam Aznou's injury revealed

Speaking ahead of Malaga's loss to Villarreal, manager Juanfran Funes confirmed that Aznou is sidelined by injury.

As quoted by Cadena Sur, Funes said that Aznou has an adductor strain in his left leg.

This comes after a bout of gastroenteritis stopped him being involved against Celta.

Malaga lost 3-1 without Aznou on Thursday and after six games, they sit second from bottom in the La Liga standings, without a win to their name.

In their final game before the lengthy international break, they play Getafe away, however, it's unlikely that Aznou will be ready for that match, too.

How long is Aznou expected to be out for?

With muscle strains, it always depends on the severity when thinking about how long a player will be sidelined.

If it's a mild strain, it's likely that Aznou will take a week or two to recover, meaning he should be back in time to play Malaga's next game, which is against Espanyol on 9 October.

Anything more serious than a strain and it's likely that Aznou will spend weeks, potentially months, out of action.

It doesn't look as though that's the issue for the Morocco international, but either way, a stop-start spell to his time on loan at Malaga is a serious setback and could impact how his season there unfolds.

Everton will no doubt be watching closely.
