David Moyes has a balancing act to juggle when Everton host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup.

This time last year, Moyes copped plenty of flak as Everton were knocked out at the same third-round stage by the same opponents.

On that occasion, Moyes named seven changes, and Everton fans were frustrated that a chance for a cup run was missed.

It has a familiar feeling around this clash, though with the added context of Moyes having to manage a threadbare squad after a dismal end to the transfer window.

Moyes might see the opportunity to give some of his fringe players a run out against the Championship outfit.

Former Everton player Michael Ball has shared why he thinks Tyler Dibling could be among those to get a chance to shine.

Everton signed Dibling from Southampton in a £40million deal in August 2025, seeing off competition from several competitors for his signature.

Dibling signed a four-year contract with the Toffees, but has struggled to make an impact at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

However, the 20-year-old's only appearances so far was in the second-round victory over Preston in the Carabao Cup.

Ball accepts Dibling will be "frustrated" with how this season has panned out thus far, and expects him to be one of three players, along with Jack Greaslish and Hayden Hackney, to get a start.

Writing for the Liverpool Echo, Ball opined: "These are the opportunities for the fringe players to demonstrate that they want to play in the Premier League and prove that with a top performance.

"They might argue that it’s difficult to come in from the cold, but you only get so many chances as a footballer and when they come your way, you have to grab them.

"This time around, Jack Grealish needs game-time so he’ll probably get a run-out and I’d imagine Hayden Hackney will get his opportunity, but will the likes of Tyler Dibling get an opportunity to come and shine?

"I thought he’d had a fantastic pre-season, so he’s probably frustrated not to have been given a chance yet."

What does Tyler Dibling's future hold at Everton?

Even with the sale of Iliman Ndiaye to Manchester City, there has been little sign that Dibling will get a run in the team.

Tyrique George, Brennan Johnson, and Grealish all seem to be ahead of Dibling in the pecking order right now.

It is hard to imagine Everton will give up on a £40m investment just yet, but there is a sense that a loan exit might be on the cards in the winter.

Dibling really needs game if he is to get his career back on track, and if that doesn't come at Everton then maybe he could benefit from games elsewhere

If he performs well, it could really benefit the Toffees in the long run.

What is for sure, it is no good for Dibling to be sat on the bench week in, week out. He needs minutes to get into a rhythm.
