Chelsea forward Danny Welbeck has proved a thorn in Everton's side too often down the years.

With his 36th birthday on the horizon, Welbeck made the move to Chelsea from Brighton in the summer and has started positively.

The former England international has three goals in six appearances, although each of those strikes have come in the Carabao Cup.

Welbeck has mainly been used as a substitute in the Premier League, most recently playing the final seven minutes of last week's 5-1 win over Bournemouth.

Whether as a starter or a substitute, Everton will need to keep a close eye on Welbeck in Saturday lunchtime's clash with Chelsea at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Welbeck will always back himself to score, of course, and if he does so this weekend then he will join a rather unique list.

Danny Welbeck's strong record vs Everton

Welbeck has appeared in 19 Premier League seasons.

On that basis, it is perhaps not surprising that he has scored a handful of goals against Everton.

The Manchester United academy product has five goals against the Toffees, across spells at four different clubs.

He scored against Everton with Man United, Arsenal, Brighton and Sunderland (twice).

As per Opta, if he scores against Everton with Chelsea, it will only the eighth such instance of a player scoring against a single club with five different teams.

Nicolas Anelka is the only player currently on that list to have done so against Everton (with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers and Chelsea).

Thierno Barry could achieve two-year first this weekend

Chelsea's attack is arguably the most exciting in the Premier League on paper, with Welbeck a more-than-capable back-up.

Everton's is less so, with Thierno Barry the only recognised striker until at least January.

Barry continues to come in for criticism among Everton fans, even if he does now have six goals for the campaign.

After wasting multiple chances, Barry stepped up with a well-taken goal against Hull City last time out.

The Guinea-Bissau international has now scored in back-to-back Premier League games.

Not since August 2024, while with Swiss Super League side Basel, has he scored in three consecutive league games.

Should he match that against Chelsea, the Toffees will have a great chance of claiming a point or more.
