Pat Nevin is certain of David Moyes' transfer needs as Everton lost 2-0 to Chelsea on Saturday.

Hill Dickinson Stadium welcomed Xabi Alonso's team on 17 October, with the game 0-0 going into the break.

The Scottish manager's half-time talk didn't have the intended effect as the Toffees immediately conceded in the 46th minute.

Pedro Neto then added another in the 90th minute, securing the three points for Chelsea in Merseyside.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall put in a decent shift for Moyes but couldn't affect the final result.

Jack Grealish also had his moments, but the Scottish manager may feel his squad still isn't quite good enough to compete against the top teams.

Thierno Barry was once again wasteful against Chelsea, and that's been a theme for the striker since his move to the Toffees.

Moyes was left with just 18 outfield players after an underwhelming end to the Toffees' transfer window and he's now clearly feeling the effects.

The Merseysiders saw their six-game unbeaten run end at the hands of Chelsea.

While the game was still 0-0, Nevin claimed the Scottish manager would instantly greenlight multiple transfers if he were offered them in January.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live on 17 October, the former attacker said, "Dewsbury-Hall still for me is the main man, the stuff will mostly come through him and I think he's been great for Everton during his time here.

"But if you said to Moyes, 'Do you want three or four players in the January window?' He'd say yes."

Why David Moyes is in more trouble than some realise at Hill Dickinson Stadium

Most prominent media figures have been talking about the impressive work Moyes has done at the start of the season with a bare-bones squad.

However, the mood around L3 is a bit different among some of the supporters.

Fans want to see the Toffees move in a different direction, with the Scottish manager's style of play not the most attractive.

While it's true that Moyes hasn't been backed by The Friedkin Group, a section of the fanbase feel he should be doing better.

After the underwhelming end to last season, supporters can't be faulted for wanting more from their team, but the 63-year-old head coach is navigating a complicated situation at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Moyes, whose contract expires at season's end.
