hEverton will save £7million in upfront fees to sign Tyrique George from Chelsea.

The Toffees seemed keen on the winger's permanent transfer after his loan spell, but that was contingent on them renegotiating the £25m buy option.

Now, the recruitment department in L3 have agreed to pay an initial £18m to sign the forward, with add-ons based on appearances and European qualification, potentially taking it to £24m.

While the Hill Dickinson Stadium hierarchy will certainly be delighted to have pulled off a discounted deal with Chelsea, who have also included a 15 per cent sell-on clause, it raises the question of how much say David Moyes had in George's transfer.

While the Scottish manager was publicly complimentary of the 20-year-old during his stint at the Merseyside outfit, that didn't amount to much on the pitch.

The England Under-21 international put in some encouraging performances off the bench under the 63-year-old head coach, but they certainly weren't enough to spend a significant sum on him.

Everton stat clearly proves David Moyes doesn't trust Tyrique George

George was signed in the final hours of the winter transfer window after Jack Grealish was sidelined for the rest of the season.

Of the youngster's 11 Premier League appearances under Moyes, 10 came off the bench, with the winger behind Dwight McNeil and Merlin Rohl in the pecking order.

According to BBC Sport on 4 July, George is poised to be the Toffees' third summer arrival, after the permanent signing of Rohl and the arrival of Hayden Hackney, with the deal subject to personal terms and a medical.

The Scottish manager handed the Englishman just 219 minutes in the Premier League, during which he recorded zero goal contributions.

It feels like rather than being Moyes' signing, it was the recruitment team that made the judgement call on George and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him in Merseyside.

Friedkin Group give reason for scepticism at Hill Dickinson Stadium

Moyes is being linked with the Scotland job after Steve Clarke's resignation following his failure to get past the 2026 World Cup group stages.

If the former West Ham United boss indeed didn't have a major say in George's arrival, it clearly shows a lack of faith from TFG in the veteran boss.

With the Blues said to be working on bringing Grealish back to Hill Dickinson Stadium, the youngster will surely have a hard time getting into the starting lineup.

The American owners may not be fully behind Moyes heading into next season and that could be a problem.
