Everton's chances of re-signing Jack Grealish this summer may depend on his recovery from injury.

The Manchester City loanee was flying when he suffered a foot fracture in January, which ruled him out for the rest of the season.

He has now returned to Enzo Maresca's side after the Blues declined to pick up their £50million buy clause.

David Moyes' side want him to return but it may be decided by the fee that the Etihad Stadium club are asking for.

His fitness will also play a factor, and whether the Toffees strike a deal may well hinge on that.

What is the latest on Everton's pursuit of Jack Grealish?

The Hill Dickinson Stadium side looked better with Grealish in it, as he notched two goals and six assists.

However, he was unavailable for half of the campaign, which ultimately saw Moyes' team fall away from European contention.

The Athletic now report on 14 July that the L3 outfit want him to be ready to play when the season kicks off, with his status currently unclear.

It states that they are expected to play the waiting game on that front, and see what his final stages of recovery look like, before making their move.

Who are Everton's alternatives for Grealish?

Everton have several alternatives if a deal for Grealish is ultimately not on the agenda.

Newcastle's Jacob Murphy has emerged as a winger target in the last few days, and Como ace Assane Diao is another potential option.

West Ham's Jarrod Bowen has worked with Moyes before, and would bring a similar experience to his compatriot, and perhaps better numbers.

They have also resigned Tyrique George on a permanent deal after his loan spell last season, and the youngster will be keen for extra minutes.

Juventus ace Edon Zhegrova is another to have been linked, but his Serie A numbers from last season do not make for encouraging reading, with no goals or assists.

It will be fascinating to see what Moyes and the recruitment team decide to do when it comes to Grealish's future, but for now we will have to wait and see.
