How Everton and David Moyes missed out on Dario Osorio - Who was signed instead?

Everton kept tabs on Dario Osorio for a long time before his move to Crystal Palace.

It is fair to say that the Toffees have needed a squad refresh for a number of years now.

There was hope that the most recent window would give them a chance to execute that.

Obviously, that never happened as business was conducted in a largely bizarre manner right up until the deadline came.

Everton failed to do the business that they really wanted, but the same can't be said about Osorio.

The wide man got his move to Crystal Palace after missing out on a Merseyside switch.

Why didn't Everton sign Dario Osorio?

There has been so much anger aimed towards the recruitment team at Hill Dickinson Stadium recently.

The end of the window was tragic and has raised serious alarm bells.

Things just haven't gone well in that area for a while, and shows little room for improvement any time soon.

The latest name to have bypassed Everton is Osorio after his late summer move from Midtjylland to Crystal Palace.

Interest was there from David Moyes previously as Alan Nixon reported via Patreon on Sunday that the Scot was really keen to sign the 22-year-old.

The Toffees' scouts refused and instead pushed to sign Tyler Dibling from Southampton last summer.

Osario now finds himself at Selhurst Park after a loan move with a £25million option to buy, but had also been linked with moves to Burnley and Leicester City as well as the Blues before.

It's just yet another blow to the Merseyside outfit after such poor recruitment recently.

Who is better according to the numbers - Tyler Dibling or Osorio?

The new signings at the Eagles may be a relative unknown in the Premier League, but brings a positive record with him.

He is coming off the back of contributing to 12 goals and assists in just 25 starts with Midtjylland last season.

In that time he created 34 chances, took 72 shots and completed 63 dribbles.

Osorio now needs time to adapt to the Premier League, but has the tools to do so.

But is he better than Dibling?

The youngster signed from Southampton has been unable to prove himself on Merseyside having only made 14 Premier League appearances with the Toffees.

He did chip in with six goal involvements in his final year with the Saints, which is a plus.

It feels as though Osorio would be the better option for the here and now, but it will be interesting to see who is thriving in a few years time.
