How Jake O'Brien feels to be an Everton player after transfer window controversy

Jake O'Brien is "disillusioned" with life at Everton after events in the summer transfer window.

Everton were quiet throughout the summer, with Hayden Hackney, Christian Norgaard and Brennan Johnson the only new faces welcomed to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl were signed permanently after their loan spells at the club last season, before Jack Grealish re-signed on a temporary basis on deadline day.

While the summer wouldn't have been a complete disaster if they were the signings made, the outgoings have caused chaos on the blue half of Merseyside with Seamus Coleman, Idrissa Gueye, Dwight McNeil, Beto, Tim Iroegbunam, Iliman Ndiaye, Nathan Patterson and Adam Aznou (loan) all leaving.

O'Brien was someone who the Blues had considered also allowing to leave.

And now, details of his position at Everton have emerged after a failed bid to sell him.

What's the situation with Jake O'Brien now?

The Telegraph has reported that with just 18 outfield players left at Everton until January, O'Brien isn't happy with the situation at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

It was reported late in August that Everton were looking to sell the 25-year-old Republic of Ireland defender.

Although he's a centre-back by trade, David Moyes played O'Brien largely at right-back last term, but Rohl has started the new campaign in the ever-neglected position.

On top of O'Brien's unhappiness, new signing Norgaard is unfit having arrived injured from Arsenal, they have just one right-back and one left-back with no back-up and Thierno Barry is the solitary recognised striker in Moyes' squad.

It's understandably led to massive outrage among the Evertonian fanbase.

What can Everton do about this mess?

Ultimately, no new players can be brought in until January.

Moyes will have to make the most of the Under-21s players who've shown the ability to step up to the first team and if any of them turn out to be half as good as Harrison Armstrong, you could argue that there is a silver lining to this mess.

The whole saga would be made a lot worse if Everton hadn't had a good start to the new campaign, too.

They said goodbye to the likes of Ndiaye and Beto on deadline day but they've grabbed a win over Crystal Palace and drew at Bournemouth in the Premier League and beat Preston comprehensively in the Carabao Cup second round.

If Everton can stay injury free, they might just be able to get through until January without being in a disastrous league position.

But it's literally only going to take one, maybe two, lengthy injury or suspension issues to cause further pandemonium.
