Why Everton have hope others don't share as Tyrique George deal imminent

Everton are pushing ahead with plans to sign Tyrique George permanently from Chelsea, even if not every supporter fully understands why.

George spent the second half of last season on loan at Hill Dickinson Stadium and made 11 appearances.

Just one of those was as a starter, however, and the winger did not register a single goal or assist.

Everton did not take up the chance to trigger a clause in George's agreement that would allow them to sign him automatically.

However, talks have been ongoing behind the scenes with Chelsea to strike a deal, likely for a better fee.

And the latest update suggests a deal could be moving fast to completion for the 20-year-old, who can offer a lot more than some may think.

When could Everton strike deal for third summer signing?

David Moyes has made clear he is a fan of George, even if the youngster did not have anything tangible to show for his efforts last season.

While he may have had no goal involvements, he certainly would have had at least a couple of assists had his attacking teammates put chances away.

George appeared to grow in confidence in the final games and was only denied his maiden goal by a brilliant save.

Everton fans could see a lot more of George this coming season, though, as per an update from the Liverpool Echo on Saturday.

Everton "hopes are growing" that a deal can be struck with Chelsea before players return for pre-season testing next week.

This comes after positive conversations between Everton and Chelsea to make George the Toffees' third summer signing.

Hayden Hackney joined Everton this week for a reported £16million upfront, while Merlin Rohl's loan deal has become permanent.

Everton take smart approach over George fee

Everton declined the chance to sign George permanently for £25m in the knowledge they could knock that down.

Exactly how much they will pay is unknown at this point, but it made sense to haggle.

The truth is that not many - if any - other teams would have been in for the young attacker based on his Everton stats.

But his underlying figures were a lot more promising and Moyes has clearly seen enough to sign off on the deal.

With Rohl and George back on board, place Hackney in place, fingers crossed for more incoming deals.
