Why Everton will watch on as Jayden Oosterwolde set for crunch exit talks with Fenerbahce
Everton target Jayden Oosterwolde's future should now become clearer as his agent is set for crunch talks with Fenerbahce.
The Dutch defender is a name that is said to have been on the Blues' shortlist this summer.
Everton links for Oosterwolde first emerged at the end of the 2025-2026 season.
It was said at the time that the Turkish side were not keen on selling the versatile defender, who can play at both centre-back and left-back.
However, with just weeks left of the transfer window, the 25-year-old is looking to get clarity on his future.
With talks with Fenerbahce now scheduled over whether he will remain with the Istanbul side or leave this summer.
When will Jayden Oosterwolde's future become clearer?
Oosterwolde could become available on the market with just weeks remaining of the summer transfer window.
According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Oosterwolde's agent, Joes Blakborn, has now flown into Istanbul as he readies talks with Fenerbahce.
The topic of conversation will be the future of Oosterwolde, with the report detailing he was previously "considering leaving the club."
With his agent now in the Turkish city, those discussions should take place quite soon, and clarity of the situation should start filtering out.
With his future uncertain, the previous interest of Everton has also been mentioned with AS Roma and West Ham namechecked too.
And if the signals point towards an exit, it remains to be seen if the Toffees will finally pounce on their interest.
Do Everton need a player like Jayden Oosterwolde?
Everton's need for Oosterwolde entirely depends on how their feelings on Jarrad Branthwaite's concerning injury record, as well as the trust in Adam Aznou.
In pre-season, Aznou has emerged as an option for the Toffees, despite barely featuring last campaign.
Aznou has been linked with an exit, but he may now get his chance after impressing David Moyes but that is not a certainty.
Meanwhile, Branthwaite has not been a player the Blues have been able to rely on.
The left-footed defender has missed 51 games over the last two seasons as per Transfermarkt.
So, while Oosterwolde may not be needed on paper, the defender could be an excellent option as cover for two roles in the squad.
However, much will depend on the possible finances as to whether that would be a transfer worth pursuing.
