Everton continue to be linked with a move for Chelsea striker Liam Delap this summer.

The Toffees have had a pretty slow start to their summer transfer window with more reinforcements definitely needed.

Hayden Hackney is the only new face in the building at Finch Farm following the central midfielder's move from Middlesbrough.

Merlin Rohl and Tyrique George have returned to Hill Dickinson Stadium on permanent transfers, but both were on loan last term.

It is little secret that David Moyes would like more attacking reinforcements before the end of the transfer window.

And Delap, who is facing an uncertain future at Chelsea, seemingly remains on the radar for the Toffees in the coming weeks.

Goodison News previously wrote about how records could tumble at Everton if they were to sign Delap.

Delap made the move to Stamford Bridge in June 2025 after they triggered his reported £30million release clause at Ipswich Town.

It was a miserable maiden campaign for the 23-year-old, though, who managed just one goal in 28 Premier League outings last term.

The arrival of Danny Welbeck has seemingly shunted him further down the pecking order, with Joao Pedro the first-choice striker.

As such, Delap could be surplus to requirements, with Everton and Brighton among the most prominently linked names.

Indeed, talkSPORT's chief correspondent Alex Crook expects both teams to be in the battle.

Speaking live on air, he said: "I think what's interesting there is, neither Brighton nor Chelsea were willing to divulge the Danny Welbeck transfer fee.

"So, that just sparks something in the back of my mind, is there maybe a Chelsea player heading in the opposite direction? And they are a bit short of firepower.

"I think Liam Delap is need of a change of scenery, one goal in 28 Premier League games, I think him and Nicolas Jackson are surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

"Everton were keen last summer, I think David Moyes retains an interest in Liam Delap, so I think there could be a bit of a battle for his signature but I do expect him to go between now and the end of the window."

What else do Everton need this summer?

Most Everton supporters will be in agreement that there are several areas of attention still needed this summer.

Hackney's arrival is welcome, but the departure of Idrissa Gueye, coupled with injury concerns for James Garner and uncertainty over Tim Iroegbunam's future means more midfield cover is needed.

A right-back remains an absolute priority, and Celtic's Alistair Johnston is seemingly a top target for Everton.

More options out wide could be needed too, especially as Jack Grealish's return is no certainty and Iliman Ndiaye continues to be linked with a switch to Al-Hilal.
