Tony Bellew hails ‘unbelievable’ Everton boss Sean Dyche after what he did last season
Everton manager Sean Dyche has been praised by former boxer and celebrity fan Tony Bellew for the “unbelievable job” he did last season.
Speaking on talkSPORT (22 July, 09:24), Toffees supporter Bellew said that no other manager in the sport could have galvanised the squad to the same success that Dyche did at Goodison Park in 2023/24.
Highlighting the 10-point deduction – later reduced to six before another two were added – for financial fair play breaches, Bellew praised Dyche for ensuring spirits stayed high as the Blues survived relegation.
When asked about the club’s prospects for the new campaign Bellew said: “No manager in world football could have done the job that Sean Dyche did last season.
“People can say whatever they want, but (with) 10 points deducted, the lads’ heads had dropped.
“He galvanised them, got them fighting again, and against all the odds we turned that deficit around.
“It was an unbelievable job, so I’ve got all the faith in the manager, I’ve got all the faith in the lads.”
Sean Dyche could be set for another season of worry at Everton
It’s a good job that, in Bellew’s words, Dyche has been able to “galvanise” the Toffees’ squad, because the club are hardly out of the woods when it comes to the problems they were faced with last season.
Although the sales of players like Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey before 30 June’s profit and sustainability deadline will likely alleviate the prospect of future points deductions, off-field matters remain complex.

The collapse of Dan Friedkin’s takeover of the club has left supporters feeling like the ownership situation is rigth back to square one [The Esk, 20 July], although there is optimism in the short term that things are stable enough.
However, it still casts doubt over where money will come from to fund necessary reinforcements in Dyche’s squad, although the club will be £50million better off with Amadou Onana’s impending move to Aston Villa [Mundo Deportivo, 22 July].
However his squad looks come August, Dyche will have the full support of Goodison Park behind him, with Bellew and others believing he could be the difference between survival and relegation next season.
