Farhad Moshiri to consider Calvert-Lewin sale this week as Everton seek cash
Andros Townsend believes Everton owner Farhad Moshiri will consider selling Dominic Calvert-Lewin to raise funds for the club.
The 27-year-old has entered the final year of his Blues contract and his future at Goodison Park is increasingly uncertain approaching the 30 August deadline.
Townsend, when discussing the forward on The Monday Night Club [BBC Sport, 26 August, 55m 57s] believes Moshiri will consider a sale this summer to avoid losing him for free at the end of the season.
He said: “The problem is, when you’re having to be so tight with your budget, can you afford to let Calvert-Lewin go for free? That’ll be going through the minds of the hierarchy.”
Everton need to find money from player sales
Unfortunately for Everton, there are few options in the side that Sean Dyche would consider selling this summer and none that could recoup the sort of fee possible through the sale of Calvert-Lewin.
Goals are the most valuable commodity in football and those who score consistently will generate the highest fees.
Calvert-Lewin had a poor return of seven Premier League goals last term but he is still a proven goal scorer in the top flight.
He has scored 54 league goals for Everton in 215 appearances, 16 of those coming in the 2020/21 season, his highest return in a single campaign.
He has failed to replicate his best form for the Blues ever since and while his name still carries weight in the Premier League, a sale this summer with the stock still high would be a smart move.

With zero goals scored in their opening two matches of the 2024/25 season, it is clear that the Toffees need to add a new dimension to their attack.
Dyche has left it late. The options available on the market are limited but money opens doors in football, and a sizeable fee for Calvert-Lewin could be invested in AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham, who has the potential to set the Premier League alight if his injury concerns are properly managed.
The 26-year-old scored 15 goals in 34 Premier League appearances in his penultimate season at Chelsea and at 6ft 3in, is the ideal build of what Dyche looks for in a striker.
For Everton it is simple. Sell Calvert-Lewin to fund a move for Abraham and if he replicates the form shown at Chelsea, their fortunes this season will drastically improve.
