Ally McCoist believes ‘time is running out’ for Everton midfielder Dele Alli

Ally McCoist believes ‘time is running out’ for Everton midfielder Dele Alli to save his career following a poor start to life at Goodison Park.

Dele moved to the Toffees on a permanent deal in January in a deal worth up to £40m, but has yet to start a game for his new club under Frank Lampard.

With the club’s future in the Premier League hanging in the balance, McCoist told talkSPORT’s breakfast show [March 29th, 8:07am] that he has a ‘worry’ that his career could pass him by.

“I don’t think I’m being too dramatic by saying time is running out,” he said.

“I really don’t think I am. I think it is. We love him, we all love him as a player and I keep thinking back to the Russia World Cup when him and Lingard were arguably two of England’s best players. Two of the better players in the tournament.

“They’ve just kind of disappeared without trace. I know Jesse had a great period down in London with Moyesie and he seemed to get his appetite back and he looked the part.

“I really worry about the two of them waking up one morning four or five years down the line and going, ‘where did my career go? What happened there?’

“It’s absolutely disappeared. Time’s running out for the two of them.”

Scary

The decline of Dele over the last few years has been a real sight for sore eyes and it is a genuine worry just how far he has fallen.

At one point he was being spoken about in the same breath as some of the best attacking midfielders in the world, but he’s seemingly been figured out now and is struggling to adapt.

It’s easy to forget that he is only 25-years-old because of how long he has been around, but we’ve seen players drop off and never be able to reclaim their place before.

Hopefully the discussion around his career and current play style will be a big wake up call for Dele and kick him into action, because that’s exactly what Everton are desperate for.

That talented, goal hungry and brilliant talent is what the club wanted when they signed him, and they must work together to get him back to that level for the good of all parties.
